Andrew Murgittroyd, PharmD
Prior to joining MedVal/PharmaWrite, Dr. Andrew Murgittroyd was Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ for 8 years. Initially, he established a clinical pharmacy practice in general medicine, which later evolved to include the critical care area. Most recently he was tasked with building an opioid stewardship program to ensure the optimal use of opioids and other pain medicines at the hospital.
In his clinical pharmacy practice Andrew established himself as an integral member of the interdisciplinary patient care team. Through his expertise in pharmacotherapy, he was able to communicate drug information and provide therapeutic recommendations to positively influence patient care. At Holy Name Andrew was an active member of several hospital committees, where he led and assisted with performance improvement projects to ensure that clinical, safety, regulatory, financial, and strategic goals of the hospital were met. Over his career he supported multiple therapeutic areas, including critical care, neurology, pain management, anticoagulation, and cardiology. In addition, Andrew served as the hospital’s formulary decision-maker for new pharmaceutical products.
Andrew received his PharmD from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Englewood Health in Englewood, NJ. Andrew has been a member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), the New Jersey Society of Health System Pharmacists (NJSHP), and the Society of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacists (SPPCP). Recently, Andrew successfully completed a professional certificate program in pain management provided by ASHP. Over the course of his career Andrew has prepared and presented scientific content such as educational slides and monographs at Holy Name and posters at scientific conferences.
