Scott Bergfeld, PhD
Dr. Scott A. Bergfeld is a Medical Editor at MedVal/PharmaWrite with over 8 years of industry experience. He has overseen fact-checking, quality control, and prompt submission for scientific publications in a variety of formats, including original research reports, review articles, abstracts, posters, slide decks, and executive summaries, across a broad range of therapeutic areas. He has published peer-reviewed research and review articles on mechanisms of chronic inflammation in the tumor microenvironment, with an emphasis on the role of circulating bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells. Prior to joining MedVal/PharmaWrite, Scott provided copyediting, graphic design, and figure layout services as a freelance editor at Cactus Communications, Inc., and coached fundamentals of English grammar and composition for clinical research scientists seeking publication in internationally recognized journals. Scott is currently a member of the American Medical Writers Association.
Scott earned his doctorate in pathobiology at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California. He served as a graduate fellow in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology-Oncology, at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where he received the NIH-funded Cellular, Biochemical, and Molecular Sciences Training Award and the CHLA Saban Research Institute Pre-Doctoral Training Award to support his research investigating tumor recruitment of bone marrow-derived cells. After completing his degree, Scott continued his studies with a 1-year appointment as a postdoctoral researcher examining real-time, live-animal imaging of immune-cell trafficking in collaboration with the Small Animal Imaging Research Center at CHLA.
